In a continuous effort to
provide a complete service to our clients, The Notarizer has now been
approved by the California Department of Justice to provide
Live Scan fingerprinting
services.
What is Live Scan?
Due to legislation passed in 1997, the California Department of
Justice (DOJ) developed an automated background check process that
requires digitized fingerprints called Live Scan. Live Scan is an
inkless fingerprinting process. The fingerprints are
electronically transmitted to the central computers at the Department
of Justice in a
matter of seconds rather than the days required to send hard copy
rolled ink
fingerprint cards through the mail.
Why use Live Scan
instead of Rolled Ink Fingerprints?
Rolled
ink fingerprints frequently become smudged through handling or mailing,
which
often causes prints to become illegible. This can cause
significant delays
to the processing of criminal background clearances. Live Scan
technology replaces the rolling ink method by the digitized recording
of an individual's
fingerprint patterns. The
Live Scan process gets results to the employer or licensing agency
within days! instead
of taking weeks or sometimes months when using hard copy rolled ink
fingerprint cards.
Also, the Department of Justice coordinates other
processing including submission of fingerprints to the FBI, if
required.

MUST have a "Request for Live Scan
Services Form."
